57th NATIONAL SQUARE DANCE CONVENTION®
RV & CAMPING

One of the challenges that faces each National Convention is where to locate the RV and camping facilities.

Many have only been able to offer dry camping on open parking lots. We are very pleased to announce that the 57th National Square Dance Convention® has entered into a contract agreement with the Sedgwick County Commissioners to utilize scenic Lake Afton Park for the site of our RV & Camping activities. We will have exclusive use of designated areas on the west side and island areas.

Lake Afton Park, a 780-acre site about 25 miles southwest of Wichita, includes a 258-acre lake. This scenic park occupies lands once inhabited by the Kiowa, Comanche, Wichita, Osage and Southern Cheyenne Tribes. Varying in size, most RV sites have electrical hookups and are shaded with large established trees. There are modern restrooms with showers and two RV dump stations on site. The lake, a WPA Project completed in 1942, features fishing, boating, and three swimming areas as well as a shooting range and an observatory. There is a grocery/convenience store and bait shop on site. A convention shuttle bus service will be provided between Century II and Lake Afton Park for those purchasing a Bus Pass.

LaVern and Carolyn Swenson, Vice Chairman RV & Camping, are leading a committee to provide “all the amenities” of home and fun activities during the 57th National Square Dance Convention®.
